About TelComm Credit Union
History has been made by people
The story of the Telephone Employees Credit Union begins mid-year 1940 with an employee of the telephone company named Harry Duewel. Harry was an installer/repairman and an excellent salesman, selling upgrades in services and extension phones. The occasion arose that Mr. Duewel had to report to St. Louis on some company business matters. While there, he spoke with fellow employees who happened to be members of the St. Louis Telephone Employees Credit Union. He became interested in the unique method used by the credit union for employees to help each other.
On his return to Springfield, Harry discussed the potential of the credit union system with several of his fellow workers. They realized the need for a financial organization like the credit union. Families were growing and the need for borrowing money existed. As interest grew, organizational information was obtained from the St. Louis Telephone Employees Credit Union. Through these gentlemen, the Springfield Telephone employees began to learn more about the credit union movement. |
